Salary

Salary for this position starts at $55,000 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.

 

About the Job

The Title Grants and Support division provides federal and state funds, professional development, and technical assistance to Indiana school corporations to provide high quality education for students. This position provides extensive support, professional development, and guidance regarding federal and state grants to ensure that both the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) and Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) meet federal and state legal requirements regarding various federal and state grants, which may include Title I, Title II, Title III, Title IV, Charter School Program, RLIS, 21st Century and School Improvements Grants. The Federal Grants Specialist will develop and update new guidance documents for members of the field to use. The position serves as the liaison for assigned districts while working collaboratively with other divisions to provide a system of support for ensuring high quality education to students and successful grant implementation.

A Day in the Life
  • Manage the appropriate grants including the formula or competive grant process, monitoring and reporting for assigned cohorts of LEAs;
  • Participate with a team of Specialists for onsite monitoring of LEAs and schools to monitor appropriateness of grant implementation;
  • Develop monitoring reports with required actions for LEAs, including follow-up resolution;
  • Review and approve LEA documents for desktop monitoring to ensure compliance;
  • Collect reports from LEAs and develop, record, and report data collection results related to assigned federal and state grants;
  • Assist in providing technical assistance and professional development to grantees;
  • Cross train other grant specialists on reviewing state and/or federal grants as well as any applicable monitoring and reporting protocols associated with such grants;
  • Keep current of research regarding best practices and updates in legislation on federal and state lawrelating to grants; and
  • Assume other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field. 
  • Two or more years of successful education-related job experience.
What You Need For Success
  • Extensive knowledge of the IDOE's philosophy, goals, objectives, theories, mission, programs, functions, and organizational structure.
  • Experience working directly with children, teachers, and/or families in one or more of the following areas: program coordination, professional development facilitation, or training.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.  Technology skills required (at a minimum: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to independently exercise sound judgment following the analysis of information.
  • Ability to present a professional demeanor when representing the Title Grants and Support division within the IDOE and at the LEA level.
  • Ability to develop, plan, administrator, manage, and organize complex programs and activities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues to accomplish assignments.
  • Prompt, reliable, pleasant, professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to travel, sometimes overnight, to meet needs of schools and districts.
