Role Overview:
Provides administrative legal support and services to the Indiana Department of Labor’s (IDOL’s) Office of General Counsel, including support for contested cases of the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA) before the Board of Safety Review.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $39,000.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Open and process mail received by the IDOL Office of General Counsel.
- Open, maintain, and close legal files in both paper and electronic formats.
- Prepare legal documents required for litigation of contested IOSHA administrative cases.
- File legal documents with the Indiana Board of Safety Review.
- Prepare discovery requests and responses for litigation of contested IOSHA administrative cases.
- Prepare and send letters, emails, and other correspondence as needed.
- Copy and mail documents as needed.
- File and maintain documents received by the IDOL Office of General Counsel.
- Manage electronic storage of legal documents.
- Maintain storage of legal documents pursuant to applicable retention schedules.
- Learn Indiana’s Access to Public Records Act (APRA) laws and how to apply them to records to be disclosed.
- Review agency documents for redactions required or allowed by APRA prior to disclosure.
- Review photographs, videos, and digital images that may contain the scene of a workplace fatality, including images of the deceased.
- Search and access documents in the IOSHA inspection database.
- Download and export information from the IOSHA inspection database and compile into Adobe .pdf documents.
- Scan paper documents and compile into Adobe .pdf documents.

What You'll Need for Success:
Upon entering the role, individuals must have or obtain the following requirements:
- Two (2) or more years of accredited college credit in paralegal or related studies or the same amount of related work experience in a private law firm or public law office may be accepted.
- Must have an excellent understanding and use of the English language. Must be especially proficient in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Must have an acute attention to detail, including, but not limited to meeting deadlines and spotting errors and inconsistencies.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must have accuracy and consistency in work product.
- Extensive knowledge in legal process and procedures, terminology, and documentation preferred.
- Working knowledge of administrative law and rule making preferred.
- Working knowledge of legal resources and legal research procedures preferred.
- Must be computer proficient with Microsoft Windows and its file creation and management system as well as Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and OneNote.
- An understanding of the features of Adobe Pro, especially creating and editing .pdf files, is preferred.
- Must maintain confidentiality as required.
- Must organize, prioritize duties, and meet given deadlines.
- Must accept supervision and constructive feedback.
- Must maintain a positive, courteous, and professional image to co-workers and public.
- Must adhere to the IDOL’s dress code and grooming standards.
