Role Overview: The Highway Seasonal Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing general highway maintenance duties that keep INDOT assets in good working condition to ensure customer satisfaction. This includes but is not limited to fleet, facilities, bridges, culverts, roadway, and right-of-way maintenance activities.
Salary: This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00 an hour. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
Location: This position is located in INDOT's Indianapolis Area.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Operate basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-way.
- Move and load supplies and materials.
- Perform emergency response activities such as: clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades.
- Perform equipment maintenance such as: minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections.
- Comply with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Perform miscellaneous labor tasks.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- High school graduate or High School Equivalent (HSE) preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
- Must have the ability to move/lift 50 pounds.
- Must have the ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time.
- Must have the ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
- Must have the ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
- Must have the ability to work unpredictable and non-traditional hours as necessary to perform seasonal operations activities.

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
