Role Overview: 

The Highway Seasonal Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing general highway maintenance duties that keep INDOT assets in good working condition to ensure customer satisfaction. This includes but is not limited to fleet, facilities, bridges, culverts, roadway, and right-of-way maintenance activities.

 

Salary

This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00 an hour.

 

Location

This position is located in INDOT’s Lagrange Unit. 

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential elements of the job duties: 

  • Complies with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Operates basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-ways
  • Moves and loads supplies and materials
  • Performs emergency response activities such as: clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades
  • Performs equipment maintenance such as: minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections
  • Performs miscellaneous labor tasks

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Must possesses a valid driver’s license
  • Working knowledge of appropriate safety practices associated with repair and maintenance heavy equipment, vehicles and/or motorized equipment
  • Knowledge of heavy and light duty vehicle and equipment use and maintenance
  • Skill in operating hand & power tools related to use & maintenance of vehicles & equipment
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to complete records and reports
  • Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly
  • Ability to follow directions and work as a part of a team
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time
  • Ability to carrying out basic functions on the computer
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.

 

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
